ASTM’s Geosynthetics Committee (D35) Approves New Standard for Thermal Fusion Welding of Geomembranes – ‘ASTM D8580 – Standard Practice for Wedge Welding of Polymeric Geomembranes’
The new standard emphases that to deliver consistent and reliable welded seams, the welding parameters (Temp, Speed, and Pressure) should be precisely controlled whereby:
-the heating control system should incorporate closed-loop control to maintain consistency of the welding temperature;
-the welding speed drive control should incorporate closed-loop control to maintain consistency of the welding speed;
-the pressure system should incorporate a load cell and closed-loop control to maintain enable reproducible consistency of the welding pressure.
